So now I had a running C# module that could entertain me to some extent but I wanted to tweak it some more. My Plex server was starting to become a hassle and I really wanted to move away from it. I have nothing against Plex but they were moving in a different direction (towards DVR functionality at this time).
I thought it would be best if I could offload my movies onto a network drive so they could be accessed more conveniently (without the Plex server running). I researched NAS drives and settled on one from Synology. I really thought I was buying a network file server.
I also wanted to offload NIAS TV from my computer/laptop to its own dedicated machine. I bought myself an ACEPC from Amazon and loaded the software on to the PC. From there, I took the HDMI output into a splitter and delivered it’s picture to all the TV’s in my house.
Buying long HDMI cables to reach all the rooms of the house was a little pricey but I wanted to try it out. With an unfinished basement, it wasn’t too hard and I bought faceplates for each room so I could use patch cords in each room.
It was now around 2018 and I was broadcasting to the entire house. I had an official platform and I was also officially disconnected from Plex. I ran a BBS for five years many years ago, so having a platform was not something new for me. My Spitfire BBS was called the NIAS Network BBS. That’s where the name NIAS TV comes from.
